Emily Hazrati
Emily Hazrati is a composer and performer based in London. Described as a ‘rising-star composer’ writing ‘music that is spacious and reflective’ (BBC Radio 3), her practice is deeply informed by sounds and landscapes from the natural world, as well as ideas around breath, ritual, and circularity. She has a particular affinity to writing for voice and working with text, and is interested in collaborative, interdisciplinary ways of making art.
Recent commissions have included for Ligeti Quartet as part of their Nouvelles Etudes project (co-commissioned by Britten Pears Arts, BBC Radio 3, and Bourgie Hall), Thames Philharmonic Choir, and Oxford Song. She has worked with the BBC Singers, Royal Opera House, Psappha, Siglo de Oro, Voce Chamber Choir, and CHROMA ensemble, amongst many others.
Emily has recently been developing her chamber opera TIDE, which received its first, sold-out performances at the Aldeburgh Festival 2022. She is published by Multitude of Voyces in their Anthology of Sacred Music by Women Composers. Emily was a Britten Pears Young Artist and a Junior Fellow at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she previously completed her MA in Opera Making and Writing in association with the Royal Opera House.
