Mark Dyer
Mark Dyer is a composer of experimental concert and installation music. His output also includes field recordings, written work and photography.
His artistic practice involves the creation of ‘musical ruins’: degenerated borrowed material (specifically historical art music) that might establish a sonic discourse analogous to visiting an architectural ruin.
Mark has worked with ensembles such as the Arditti Quartet, House of Bedlam, The Riot Ensemble, Psappha and CoMA, as well as soloists Benedict Holland, Kathryn Williams, Jason Alder and Amy Jolly. In addition he has installed live installation pieces in the Manchester Art Gallery and HOMEmcr, the latter in collaboration with visual artist Susan Pui San Lok.
Mark attended the 2019 Bilkent Composition Academy, the 2018 Roche Continents residency and the 2018 UKYA Cornish Weekender. Additionally, Mark has published written work in TEMPO, Early Music, the Elsewhere Journal Blog, and as part of the Defragmentation agenda at the 2018 Darmstadt International Summer School.
Mark was proud to hold the role of Leverhulme Mentor at the Junior RNCM, and has previously mentored A-level Composition students at Holy Cross College, Bury.
Mark studied at the University of Southampton with Matthew Shlomowitz and Ben Oliver, where he received the Hazel Muras-Osborn Prize for Composition. His studies at the University of Manchester were supported by the Harry Clough Scholarship, where he was supervised by Philip Grange.
Mark is currently a PhD candidate in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, supervised by Mauricio Pauly. These studies are generously supported by an AHRC North West Consortium DTP studentship.
