Michael Parsons
Michael Parsons has been active as a composer and performer since the mid-1960s. He studied classics at Oxford, piano and composition at the Royal College of Music.In 1969 he was co-founder with Cornelius Cardew and Howard Skempton of the Scratch Orchestra, and in the 1970s and 80s he was closely associated with visual artists of the Systems group. His compositions include many works for piano, solo instruments, ensembles, synthesised sound, and two orchestral works. Recent pieces for the Finnish vocal ensemble Fiori include settings of early Greek lyrics (Sappho, Alkman, Euripides) and arrangements of traditional songs from Macedonia and Romania.
