Workshops 4 and 5: the North East of England
These workshops took place on 26 and 27 January. The Marsyas Trio, composer Laura Bowler and artist Julian Hand headed to Sacred Heart High School in the West end of Newcastle upon Tyne for their first workshop day on Thursday 26 January. This was delivered to a group of prospective Music GCSE students in Year 9. We had a brilliant day in the school working with an engaged and energetic group of girls from across Newcastle upon Tyne.
For the second day of workshops, the group headed out to the coast, to King’s Priory School in Tynemouth. This workshop was delivered to a mixture of GCSE Art and Music students. We had another lovely day with the students making varied and expressive films and scores, and we had a great time watching them back at the end of the day. A brilliant way to end the week!
There was extremely positive feedback from the teachers, students, as well as the artists involved in this project. Both NMC and the schools and young people involved are very grateful to the artists for their commitment to this project to travel up to the North East!
These workshops were specifically supported by a grant from the Three Monkies Trust alongside our other Education funders: Arts Council England, the Marchus Trust, The Michael Tippet Foundation, the Nugee Foundation, the Souter Charitable Trust, the Brian Mitchell Charitable Settlement, and the Foyle Foundation.
