Chrissie Pinney
Charlotte Amelia Marlow (b.1992) is a classical composer hailing from County Durham, in the North of England.
She began her training at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) as a classical saxophonist. Having been a principal study performer for the first two years of my undergraduate degree, she developed a keen understanding of the professional and musical issues faced by performers, which has proven instrumental in helping her develop a professional and sensitive approach to composition. She went on to graduate the RNCM with a Master of Music in composition with distinction, under the tutelage of Professors Gary Carpenter and Adam Gorb.
Charlotte has had her works performed and commissioned both in the UK and internationally, by ensembles such as Streetwise Opera and the Mannin Contemporary Ballet, in performances as far ranging as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and the Women of the World festival in King's Place, London, to the Isle of Man's TheatreFest. Last year her piece for solo flute, Breathless, was released by Kathryn Williams on HCR, an imprint of NMC recordings. Kathryn and Charlotte were commissioned through ACE and Kinetic Manchester to extend this work for I N T I M A T E festival in February 2020, culminating in an interactive video installation at Paradise Works gallery. Charlotte was commissioned in early 2020 by Sounds Like This festival in Leeds to extend her semi-staged song cycle Folk Songs, and her operetta Fruitbowl is due to be premiered later this year at The Cockpit in London as part of Tête-À-Tête Festival. She and long-term collaborator Caroline Hardaker were recently shortlisted for commission by the Royal Opera House as part of their International Women’s Day commissions.
Charlotte’s foremost creative interests lie in collaborative performance practice and experimental narrative devices.
