GCSE Composition resource
Works from the NMC catalogue are the starting point for practical lessons and student exercises in our GCSE Music Composition Resource. Written by composer Dr Steven Berryman, this resource provides creative inspiration through exploring music by 6 NMC composers. The resource contains works by 6 NMC composers as examples and starting points for detailed composition tasks, listening exercises and activities for students, to help them in their own composition writing. In addition, we have created Spotify playlists with further listening taken from throughout NMC's catalogue that demonstrate extra examples for each composition element explored in the resource.
Guided activity: This resource comprises 6 guided 'lessons' which should be 1 to 2 hours in duration.
Independent activity: All lessons have open ended creative tasks attached.
The worksheets meet the criteria for an Explore Arts Award by facilitating students in:
> active participation in a range of arts activities, including a personal response about what they have learnt from taking part
> experience of arts organisations, artists and their work
> creating a piece of art work
> identification of what they have enjoyed and/or achieved, and their communication of this to others

GCSE Dance resource
A resource suitable for the GCSE Dance choreography component, which includes: teaching guidance from Mark Baldwin, Rambert Artistic Director; contextual notes from Rambert Music Fellows and NMC composers Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Gavin Higgins, Kate Whitley, Mark Bowden, and Quinta; an album of 10 pieces from the NMC catalogue, scaled for group and solo dancing; additional resources to take your exploration of new music for dance further.
Guided activity: Guided listening and engagement with the repertoire included in this resource could take the form of lessons or classes: there are 4 prompt areas, and 5 composers, and these could both be ways teach the material or engage with the resource in a structured way.
Independent activity: The choreographing and / or performing of a dance work.

Many Voices
Many Voices
Many Voices is a book and CD of ten newly commissioned pieces for violin (with piano accompaniment), aimed at learners who are of Grade 2-5 standard.
Guided activity: As this is a set of pieces, the guided activity could be 1-to-1 music lessons over the course of a term to learn a piece.
Independent activity: Individual practice to learn a piece, potentially to be able to perform it - lots of hours potentially!

Taking music by composer Kate Whitley as a starting point, this free online app features a specially devised remix by Olugbenga Adelekan of Mercury Prize nominees Metronomy.
> Provides software for students to create their own remixes
> Designed to meet KS3 & KS4 curriculum
> Compatible with desktop, smartphone, and tablet
> Includes lesson plans for teachers, and instructional video
> Submit your finished remix, with the best featured on NMC’s website
Guided activity: If the lesson plan used, this would be a 1-2 hour guided learning experience.
Independent activity: The resource itself could take an additional 1-2 hours to create a remix.

Exhibition Resource
Students are guided through a series of 5 short videos and corresponding worksheets to create a panel introducing a work of their choosing, from a selection of 30 NMC albums over the past 30 years. The videos are presented by composer and researcher Dr. Steven Berryman, writer and BBC Radio 3 presenter Kate Romano, and NMC's General Manager Ellie Wilson.

Independent activity: This resource contains 5 videos and worksheets which are open ended, but might take anything from 1 to 3 hours each to work through.
