Shruthi Rajasekar
Chosen by The Guardian UK as a composer "who will enrich your life," Shruthi Rajasekar is an Indian-American composer and vocalist exploring identity, community, and joy. Shruthi's music draws from her training in the Carnatic (South Indian classical) and Western classical idioms. Composition honours include the KHORIKOS ORTUS International Award and the Global Women in Music Award from the United Nations & Donne in Musica Fondazione Adkins Chiti. Recent projects are new works for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Psappha, VocalEssence, and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls' department ensembles as their annual Co-Commissioned composer. Her music has appeared on BBC Radio 3, Spotify's Official Classical Releases, and radio stations throughout the USA. As a nationally-recognised Western classical soprano and Carnatic vocalist, Shruthi also regularly performs globally. An alumnus of Princeton University, where she was awarded the Edward T. Cone Prize in Composition, Shruthi is a former United Kingdom Marshall Scholar.
