NMC's Founder and Executive Producer Colin Matthews pays tribute to Sir Andrew Davis

We are extremely sad to learn of the death of Andrew Davis, one of the leading conductors of our time. He was Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from 1989 until 2000, subsequently their Conductor Laureate. His many recordings with the orchestra for NMC include Harrison Birtwistle’s Mask of Orpheus, Edward Elgar’s Third Symphony, Anthony Payne’s Time’s Arrow and music by Nicholas Sackman, David Sawer and Hugh Wood. He was very happy for his performance of Anthony Payne’s Visions and Journeys from the 2002 Proms to be included on the soon to be released CD of Tony’s orchestral music. He was wonderful to work with and we will miss him greatly.
