As Benjamin Britten is our Catalogue Corner feature this month, we've delved back into the NMC archive to look more closely at Britten on NMC. In doing so we have rediscovered a Listening Club we put out back when live streaming was all the rage during the first lockdown of 2020. We're reposting it here for you to enjoy once more.
In the video below, Colin Matthews and Lucy Walker (Head of Public Engagement, Red House Aldeburgh) guide us through the 2007 release Britten on Film (NMC D112). The album collects all the surviving music Benjamin Britten wrote during the 1930s for various organisations such as the General Post Office and Southern Railways.
Britten on Film features premiere recordings of Coal Face, The Way to the Sea, Men Behind the Meters, Peace of Britain, The King's Stamp and Telegrams, plus the first recording of the complete music for Night Mail. The album also features narration from BAFTA and Olivier award-winning actor Sir Simon Russell Beale.
Catalogue Corner is our monthly feature where we take a look at the extensive NMC catalogue and pick out an album to shine new light on. Each month, you're able to buy the featured Catalogue Corner recording for a special discounted price so that you, our NMC community, can listen to release anew. Click on Catalogue Corner below to find out more about Unknown Britten and get your discount on all Britten releases on NMC.
There are more Listening Clubs for you to enjoy featuring, Tansy Davies, Param Vir and Emily Howard. You can find them over on our NMC YouTube Channel.
NMC's Discover platform is created in partnership with ISM Trust.
