Arthur Oldham
Arthur Oldham was an English choral director and composer. Born in London, he studied with Herbert Howells at the Royal College and then served a kind of apprenticeship as student-assistant to Benjamin Britten between 1945 and 1951. His adaptation of Arne's Love in a Village and several of his own pieces were heard at early Aldeburgh Festivals. Thereafter he was better known for his skills as a choirmaster, directing the Scottish Opera Chorus between 1966-74 and the London Symphony Orchestra Chorus from 1969-76. He was also invited to found choruses for the Orchestra de Paris and the Concertgebouw in 1979.
