Leave a Legacy
Remembering NMC with a gift in your will can help to support tomorrow’s composers create the music of the future and preserve their music for the next generation of listeners.
After providing for your loved ones, a gift of any size would make a real difference to our support for composers
Why leave a gift to NMC in my will?
NMC is a unique music charity dedicated to recording and promoting contemporary classical music by UK and Irish composers. We support and release the music of composers at every stage of their journey, from emerging talent, through our Extended Play and Debut Disc series and on to established voices whose work deserves wider recognition. Once released we do not delete our recordings, so they remain available for future generations.
We are supported by Arts Council England, many trusts and foundations and support from individual donors. Without the generosity of people who care about recorded music and value what we do, we cannot continue our ambitious programme of releases.
Who can leave a gift to NMC in their will?
Anyone can leave a gift to NMC in their will, and many people have a greater capacity to give a legacy than to donate in their lifetime. A gift of any size can contribute to our work with composers and make a real difference in securing our future.
What type of gift can I leave to NMC in my will?
After providing for your family and loved ones first, there are three types of gifts you could consider leaving to NMC:
- A residuary legacy where you donate a specified percentage of your estate. Leaving even a small percentage can go a long way.
- A pecuniary legacy, which is a gift of a fixed amount of money.
- A specific legacy, which is a gift of a specific item or object.
- £5,000 could pay for producing a small unconducted chamber work, including artist fees, venue hire, producer and recording engineer fees, in addition to all postproduction costs.
- £10,000 could pay for an orchestra to record a large-scale 20’ piece.
How will my gift be used?
If you have a particular project close to your heart, then you are more than welcome to indicate that you wish your gift to be used in that way.
However, we would encourage you to consider leaving a gift which remains unrestricted, so that funds can be directed wherever they are most needed.
How do I write a will?
We strongly recommend you seek appropriate legal advice from a solicitor when writing your will, to ensure it is drafted according to your wishes.
Do I need to let NMC know that it is included in my will?
There is no need for you to tell us that you have made us a gift in your will, but we would be delighted to hear from you if you have done so, in order to thank you and keep you informed of our plans.
What information do I need to include?
To make sure we receive your gift you’ll need to include our name, address and registered charity number:
Name: NMC Recordings Ltd
Address: St Margaret’s House, 21 Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green, London E2 9PL
Registered charity number: 328052
I already have a will, can I update it to include a gift to NMC?
Yes – your solicitor can help you create a codicil, which is an official alteration to your will. There is no limit on how many codicils you can add to your will.
